This candy bar, which translates as ‘‘bird’s milk,’’ is made up of an airy, vanilla-foam filling covered in chocolate. After the invasion of Poland, the company was forced to produce chocolate for the Germans, and Wedel was sent to the Nazi camp in Pruszkow. He survived the war, but the E. Wedel company was nationalized by the Communists and run by the government until 1989. It’s now owned by a Korean conglomerate, and there are flavors and versions for every holiday.
